We specialize in planning, permitting, strategy development and implementation, and environmental services. We provide senior level expertise to help our clients navigate through the complex maze of environmental regulations and regulatory compliance required for projects across the energy sector. Our clients are diverse represent several market segments: power generation (e.g., solar, wind, gas), pipelines, electrical transmission/distribution, municipal, and oil and gas. Job description

Maskwa’s GIS Specialists are highly skilled professionals who work with a variety of data types to produce high-quality mapping products. As a Junior GIS Specialist, you will play an important role in supporting the GIS team with tasks such as map production, data management, and analysis. This is an excellent opportunity to grow your skills and gain hands-on experience in the environmental consulting industry.

Day-to-day work may include:

  • Assisting with map and figure production.

  • Supporting data creation, editing, and management.

  • Collaborating with internal teams and clients.

  • Contributing to data analysis and quality control.

  • Assisting in the preparation of GIS deliverables for regulatory applications.

  • Participating in field data collection support when needed.

Core qualifications

  • Up to two years of experience in a GIS-related role, or relevant co-op/internship experience.

  • Educational background in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field.

  • Proficient knowledge of ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online and other ESRI software.

  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

  • A keen eye for detail and a commitment to producing quality work.

  • A willingness to learn and grow within a professional consulting environment.

  • An unwavering commitment to safety and familiarity with safety requirements in the field and in the office.

  • Open-minded approach to participating in different types of projects, tasks, and responsibilities associated with a small and growing business.

The preferred candidate will have the following attributes to support our team and our clients:

  • Experience with data management, analysis, and map production.

  • Familiarity with CAD-to-GIS data integration.

  • Experience with Safe Software FME for data analysis.

  • A valid Driver’s Licence is an asset.


Core responsibilities

  • Assist in producing high-quality GIS-based deliverables for clients.

  • Contribute to project work as part of a collaborative team.

  • Support the preparation and submission of GIS deliverables for regulatory applications.

  • Help maintain and improve Maskwa’s GIS processes and standards.

  • Participate in quality assurance/quality control processes for GIS deliverables.

  • Provide day-to-day GIS support to Maskwa employees as needed.

  • Support Maskwa employees in day-to-day business operations where required.

  • Support and contribute to the development of both Maskwa and client policies and procedures.

Location

This is a full-time position, preferably based out of our Calgary office located at 140 10 Avenue SE. Remote work will be considered for certain candidates. Within this role, travel throughout Alberta will occasionally be required.
