We are searching for a Junior to Intermediate level Wildlife Biologist living in Edmonton, Alberta (or surrounding area) to join our growing team. We specialize in planning, permitting, strategy development and implementation, and environmental services. We provide senior level expertise to help our clients navigate through the complex maze of environmental regulations and regulatory compliance required for projects across the energy sector. Job description

The ideal candidate will have a combination of work and educational experience in environment, natural resources, renewable resources, ecology, or similar sectors. In this position, you will be involved in the development, implementation, and monitoring of energy-sector environmental assessments, field programs, and mitigation reports, while also actively participating in biophysical field programs. We are looking for someone with a collaborative approach who can work with a diverse range of clients, has a great attitude, and a willingness to grow as a professional. This role requires open-minded wildlife specialists in the Edmonton region.


Core qualifications

  • University degree (e.g., B.Sc. or M.Sc.) in an environment focused program such as Environmental Science, Biology, or related discipline.

  • Three to five years, minimum, related work experience.

  • Field survey experience assessing wildlife.

  • Skills in data compilation, technical reporting, and written and oral communication.

  • Proficient using Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word).

  • Strong interpersonal skills, team-oriented, and suited to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Open-minded approach to participating in different types of projects, tasks and responsibilities associated with a small- to mid-sized growing business.

  • An unwavering commitment to safety and familiarity with safety requirements in the field and in the office.

  • A valid Class 5 driver’s licence

  • Having a professional designation (e.g., P.Biol.) is considered an asset.

Core responsibilities

  • Actively participate in biophysical field programs.

  • Pro-actively contribute/assist/support the development, implementation, evaluation, and monitoring of Maskwa’s quality management in relation to environmental deliverables and work performed.

  • Support (or lead) project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and execution.

  • Support business development initiatives and help strengthen client relationships.

  • Contribute/collaborate generally to Maskwa projects and team members.

  • Assist in the preparation and submission of regulatory applications.

  • Technical report writing and peer review of technical reports and deliverables.

  • Support Maskwa employees in day-to-day business operations where required.

Location

This is a full-time hybrid position based out of the Edmonton region where our Field Office is located. Our head office is in Calgary at 140 10 Ave SE. With this role, travel throughout western Canada may be required.
